US Dollar Index Price Forecast: Tests 50-day EMA support after breaking below 99.00

The US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the value of the US Dollar (USD) against six major currencies, is losing ground after four days of gains and is trading around 98.80 during European hours on Monday. The momentum indicator shows that the 14-day relative strength index (RSI) at 53 (neutral) reflects improving momentum.

The US Dollar Index stands marginally above the nine-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA) and the 50-day EMA. The short-term average has turned higher, while the 50-day moving average has stabilized after an earlier decline.

Staying above the rising nine-day EMA would keep the near-term bias supportive and lead the dollar index to target a seven-month high of 99.57, hit on December 2. Further resistance lies at the seven-month high of 100.26, which was recorded on August 1.

On the downside, immediate support lies at the 50-day EMA at 98.70, which is in line with the nine-day EMA at 98.66. Further declines would weaken short- and medium-term price momentum and put pressure on the US Dollar Index to move into the region around 97.75, the lowest level since October 25.
