In a significant move to support residents affected by severe April rains, the Ruler of Sharjah, Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, announced today that compensation for damaged homes will be increased to AED 50,000 per household.
So far, 618 households have benefited from this compensation, as reported by the Sharjah Government Media Bureau. The total approved compensation amount stands at AED 15,330,000, with Sheikh Sultan directing the Sharjah Social Services Department to distribute the funds immediately to those in need.
In April, under the directives of Sheikh Sultan, the Sharjah Executive Council enhanced safety measures and developed proactive plans to handle future adverse weather conditions. The council also announced aid for homeowners affected by the rains, with applications available through the Sharjah Digital Platform. Homeowners could submit reports detailing the extent of the damage to access the compensation.
This announcement follows the UAE’s heaviest rainfall in 75 years, which prompted the council to offer a one-month postponement of fee payments related to renewals and violations for commercial establishments.
